Dance floors are shut, bars and restaurants are closed, but the great outdoors of Ibiza is still open for all on the island to enjoy, and what better way to do so than hiking. There are a huge range of walks and routes dotted across the island that will bring you beautiful scenery, an exciting source of exercise and an increased appreciation for what Ibiza has to offer.
Hiking in Ibiza is great in both the winter and the summer. In past years a first time tourist would usually drop their suitcase and head straight for the club (or just take their suitcase with them!). But, with Covid-19 still very much a part of our new-norm lives and so many of the ‘normal’ holiday activities on hold, there’s never been a better time to consider hiking.
As people who have recently opened up to the idea of island hikes, we can speak from experience when saying we wish we’d done it sooner. 6 holidays, 2 permanent moves to the island and days spent on dance floors between us but only recently have we learned to love Ibiza’s alter-ego.
Lots of Ibiza blogs, tourism websites and businesses have already written about their favourite hikes in Ibiza. There’s plenty of information online to give inspiration and information on where and how to get your boots walking. To avoid repeating others and simply support what already exists, we’ve rounded up the best of the best. 1. ES VEDRA
Whether you like walking or not, Es Vedra is a sight worth the small effort that it takes to get there. It’s unbelievable. As you head to Cala’D’Hort, you’ll see multiple paths and parking areas that will lead you to various viewpoints. It’ll take some trial and error to find your favourite but none of them are bad, some are just extra special! You can also follow the road down to Cala’D’Hort beach where you’ll get a sand-level view of the giant landmark. There’s also a lovely seafood restaurant with amazing views of Es Vedra here, but reservations are advised.

2. SA TALAIA
As you reach the peak of Sa Talaia you’ll have views of the whole island, in all directions. You can choose to park your car at the bottom of the hill and trek all the way up as per the time guide below, or you can drive up further and just take in the sights. We’d suggest you set your alarm and get there for sunrise, you won’t regret it.

3. PUNTA GALERA
Along the way you’ll pass highlights such as Aquarium Cap Blanc, Punta Galera and Cala Gracioneta. If you time it right, this route is the ultimate sunset journey. Bring a picnic, a few drinks and watch the sky change colour as day turns to night.

4. DALT VILLA
Cute cafes, independent shops, delicious restaurants and a whole lot of history! The port in Ibiza Town is a great place to start your walk as all taxis and buses know it well, there’s also a well signed posted large public pay-and-display carpark near by and well sign posted if you’ve got your own transport. Dalt Villa sits high above Ibiza Town and so it’s easy to see where you’re aiming for. Just head toward it and keep on walking, you’ll soon see the intricate little streets and paths that you can explore for hours. 5. THE ABANDONED HOTEL
Unless you’re traveling by 4x4, it’s best to park at the top of the hill when you reach the decent to The Abandoned Hotel Resort. It’s a short by steep walk down with amazing views over the cove. Once you reach the lower levels, you’ll see what still stand of the building work covered in a range of quick-tag and highly artistic graffiti pieces.

6. BENIRRAS
This route is one for the nature lovers. You’ll travel through unspoiled nature and total silence to reach Benirras beach, famous for its resident bongos.

7. TIME AND SPACE
Being able to walk through the stone formation of Time and Space makes it a larger than life experience. The sculpture is considered to be the most well known piece of art on the island and is located near the edge of a cliff from which you can see Es Vedra. Nearby there are many stone circles along with a door frame through which you see an amazing view. Although there’s no exact route to follow here, there is plenty of space to walk around, explore and enjoy. We’d suggest that you park either before or shortly after leaving the main road in Cala Tarida and then walking the rest of the way.

8. MOSCARTER LIGHTHOUSE
The Moscarter Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in the Balearic Islands. It’s surrounded by woods and just down the road from The Abandoned Hotel Resort.

"The path leading to the lighthouse starts at the car park in the small cove of Es Portitxol in Portinatx. From there, there’s a path to the right that goes up to the lighthouse all along the edge of the cliff. 9. SES PORTES
This route takes you close to a whole host of delicious restaurants such as Mikala, Beso Beach and Jockey Club. You’ll get to enjoy multiple beaches along with one of the islands many water towers. On your way to the starting point, keep an eye out for flamingos in the salt lakes too!

10. HEAVEN'S DOORS
When walking from Santa Agnes to see Heaven’s Doors you can pass the beautiful almond blossom along the way (in January and February). This is also a great route for a night-hike during the early months of the year as the blossom glows in the moon light. You can extend this hike easily by starting either in, or closer to, San Antonio.
